In flashbacks told around a pretend car trip they take - so he can practice driving - we see Paul's infancy, their fun together (sometimes with a manic edge), and his growing desire to go to school and be with other kids. We also flash back to Emily's childhood, with parents so bound up with each other that she's virtually ignored. Is Emily going to be able to let Paul be with others? Or, can she, as in the David Bowie song she sings at a school talent show, construct a life on Mars?

• Stringbean & Marcus
John playing Marcus
Filming: soon
Genre: Documentary
Directed by: Tanya Hamilton
About the movie: John told MuchNews that he would appear alongside Mos Def in a feature called Stringbean and Marcus, which is slated to begin filming in late 2007. "It's about a Philadelphia community that has a lot of former Black Panthers in it," said Legend. "It's ten years after the height of the Black Panther movement so its kind of showing how they're struggling to live after they've been through that intense period of political activism. "I'm playing a younger guy who looks up to the former Black Panthers, and he wants to be like they were. He's inspired by them, he wants to be a revolutionary, he's always arguing with the cops and he's always getting into trouble because he thinks he's smarter and more militant than he really probably should be at the time." Legend won't be the only rookie on set - Stringbean and Marcus is the feature debut from writer/director Tanya Hamilton. "It should be cool," said Legend. "I don't know how long my acting career will go and if I'm going to really focus on it or not, but I'm going toreally focus on getting that role right and if I do well with that, then I'll continue."
