DJ Khaled Spills Details About Victory LP
(Added on Dec 17, 2009)
DJ Khaled confirmed that the track list for his upcoming album that hit the internet on Tuesday — including collaborations like "All My Life" with Akon, Mavado and Shyne; and "Victory" with John Legend, Kanye West, Nas and Jadakiss — is not entirely accurate.
"Ninety percent of that track listing is so real," Khaled said in an e-mail to MTV News. "I can tell u this, [the album] is getting even bigger. But just know the ones you read on that track listing that you hoping are on the Victory album, I can say this; God is soooo goood! VICTORY coming soon!"

Vaughn Anthony's official music video
(Added on Dec 14, 2009)
As you may know, John didn't have to look very far to find his next protégé. After two years of helping him develop as an artist, JL is gearing up to introduce his younger brother, Vaughn Anthony, as the second signing to his HomeSchool Records imprint.
Legend officially signed Anthony to HomeSchool in November 2007, just weeks after unveiling the label's first signing, U.K. singer Estelle. Since then, the 29-year-old has cut his teeth as one of Legend's background vocalists on tour and released a six-track E.P. on iTunes in 2008 entitled "Mr. Everything." A debut album is to be released shortly.
For now, you can check out his official music video for "Heaven" directed by Jae Williams Of Forty 8 Three Films, that premiered yesterday.

American Express Pairings Dinner
(Added on Dec 12, 2009)
Is there anything that could possibly be better than hanging out with Tom Colicchio during the Top Chef finale? Yes: spending the finale with Tom and John Legend, the unbelievably soulful singer at a super-intimate dinner at Craftsteak for an American Express Pairings dinner. (It's part of Amex's Enthusiast program for card members that pairs Food & Wine & Music. This is where I say that F&W is owned by Amex.) That means Tom and John talked about how they met (Tom says a Hamptons food event; John thinks it was at the South Beach Wine & Food Festival in Miami). And how John’s food background inspired Tom’s dinner: John’s grandmother played organ at church on Sundays and then came home and made cornbread and greens. Tom translated that into a fabulously creamy polenta with spigarello (a Tuscan-kale-like green) with succulent roasted porchetta. He also served guinea hen, because, hey, John loves poultry.
John and Tom created a playlist for the meal, including Stevie Wonder’s “Summer Soft” and Sufjan Stevens’s “Come On! Feel the Illinoise!” What tops that? John Legend playing the most unbelievably awesome 40-minute set, including “Good Morning” (it doubled as “Happy Birthday” to his girlfriend), a cover of Chaka Khan’s “Sweet Thing” and, for an encore, “Ordinary People.” The only thing that didn’t happen at that dinner: Tom revealing who'd win Top Chef.

Packed to the Rafters' Hugh Sheridan is hoping to break into music like John Legend
(Added on Dec 12, 2009)
Hugh Sheridan is not afraid of hard work. The week he unveiled his singing voice - to a few million viewers of Dancing with the Stars - was the same week in which he was told he'd be recording his debut album for Sony. At exactly the same time, he would film his wedding and honeymoon scenes on the hit drama that introduced him to the masses - Channel 7's Packed to the Rafters. The Dancing with the Stars appearance was designed to distance him from his TV role as Ben Rafter and introduce him as a credible musical act making grown-up pop. However, for two weeks he was Ben Rafter by day and Hugh Sheridan by night. Earlier this year he was given a song on which to test his chops in the Sony studios.
"It was the worst demo ever," Sheridan says. "It was this really bad Justin Timberlake copy. The producer said, `This isn't doing you any favours', and I said, 'I'm aware of that'."
Instead, he and the producer, Leon Seenandan, wound up writing a song called Never Let You Go - and Sheridan found his sound. It was more John Legend than Justin Timberlake - a tougher sell for Sony.
"I know it scares Sony when I mention John Legend because he never really took off here," Sheridan says.
"People would say, 'Just because you like John Legend doesn't mean you can do what he's done', but what I like about him is how the feeling in his music changes so dramatically from song to song."

John Legend sells apartment & buys a new one
(Added on Dec 6, 2009)
It's been a busy week for John Legend. Not only did he close on the purchase of a one-bedroom condo at 52 East 4th Street for $1.9 million, he also went into contract to sell his former apartment at 72 East 3rd Street. The two-bedroom condo had been listed for $1.195 million.
JL working on his new album
(Added on Dec 4, 2009)
As reported last month, John is currently working on his fourth studio album, that is going to be called 'The Wake Up Sessions'. Here are JL's recent tweets on it:
December 4: Homeschool mtgs all day. Going back to the studio to do some more vocals for "Wake Up!" now. December 4: Just finished a vocal session for the "Wake Up!" album. Had some of the best backing vocalists in the city form a mini-choir. Magnificent...
And below you can find some more info on the new album: It's a collection of cover songs, so it will be a little more retro this time around. The album will probably be finished by the end of the year and according to some sources close to JL, put out by the middle of 2010. Legend has used his downtime between strings of tour dates to link up with The Roots crew, who are serving as the backing band on the project. John still hasn't entirely ruled out getting a few guest stars to appear on the album. He is currently focusing on laying down the track with those Philly cats.

John Legend Nominated for a Grammy Award!
(Added on Dec 3, 2009)
Come Jan. 31, John Legend will get a crack at his seventh Grammy in five years. The Springfield native was nominated Wednesday night, Dec. 2, for a Grammy for the song “This Time” in the Best Male Pop Vocal Performance category. It was Legend’s only nomination this year, meaning his actual album, 2008’s “Evolver,” was overlooked. His competition in the category includes Maxwell, Jason Mraz, Seal and his musical hero, Stevie Wonder. It marked Legend's 15th overall Grammy nomination. The former John Stephens, a North High grad, already has won six Grammys.
The 52nd Grammy Awards will air at 8 p.m. Jan. 31 on CBS.

The Good News on AIDS
(Added on Dec 1, 2009)
World AIDS Day often means a barrage of depressing statistics. But singer and activist John Legend writes that thanks to big strides in antiretroviral drugs, there’s reason to celebrate. Many people hear it’s World AIDS Day and brace themselves for a barrage of depressing statistics. Instead, let me throw you a curve ball: We have made impressive progress in the fight against AIDS, and should celebrate our successes. Don’t misunderstand—we still have a long way to go and should not feel complacent. Thirty three million people are HIV-positive, 22 million of them in Africa. Worldwide, HIV/AIDS is the No. 1 killer of women. But, as of May 2009, 4 million HIV-positive people had access to the antiretroviral medicines that keep them alive and allow them to lead productive lives. In just 10 years, the price of these drugs was reduced from $12,000 to $170, making them far more accessible to those who need them. And the numbers of AIDS-related deaths and HIV infections have recently declined for the first time.
