PEOPLE EXCLUSIVE: BEYONCE AND JAY-Z FILE SIGNED MARRIAGE LICENSE
Posted on 22 Apr 2008 by Ewe
Beyoncé and Jay-Z are mum, but their paperwork is doing the talking for them: The couple filed their signed wedding license Friday in Scarsdale, N.Y., PEOPLE has confirmed exclusively. Scarsdale Town Clerk Donna Conkling tells PEOPLE the license – which lists the wedding date as April 4 – was received on Friday afternoon. The couple applied for the license just three days before the ceremony attended by friends and family, including Beyoncé's mother Tina Knowles, her father/manager Mathew, her sister Solange, her Destiny's Child pals Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, and the couple's friend Gwyneth Paltrow. Although the couple's license was filed more than five days after the wedding – as required by law – Conkling tells PEOPLE it's expected to be processed with the state without a penalty. Though sources confirmed the wedding to PEOPLE, the couple have remained silent about their nuptials. Shortly after the wedding, Beyonce was spotted with a ring while joining Jay-Z on tour, but neither of them have publicly stepped out with new jewelry.

MAGS ACCUSED OF RACISM OVER BEYONCE WEDDING
Posted on 22 Apr 2008 by Ewe
Four big celebrity mid-week magazines have been accused of racism after failing to put news of Beyonce and Jay-Z’s wedding on their cover. The accusation surfaced after Ben Widdicombe, a New York Daily News columnist noted that only Us Weekly, one of the five mid-week glossies, put the power couple’s wedding on its cover. He said one top editor blamed the lack of attention on a perception in the industry that ‘African-Americans don't sell covers.’ Only media mogul, Oprah Winfrey, was seen by many as being able to sell covers. But Us Weekly editor in chief Janice Min, the only non-white to be in charge of a top US celebrity magazine told Widdicombe: "Janet Jackson has been on our cover twice, for two of our best-selling issues we've ever had." Some sources suggested that black stars would get much less than white and latino stars for exclusive wedding photos. They said Eva Longoria can get US$1 million for wedding photos, but Beyonce could have received as little as US$250,000 for hers, without the expectation of cover sales. Last week, magazine publisher and black gossip pioneer Flo Anthony blasted such claims on Blacknews.com. "That sounds to me a very racist statement. Beyoncé is one of the biggest stars in the world, much bigger than Eva Longoria."

JAY-Z AND BEYONCE JOIN STARS IN LAS VEGAS
Posted on 21 Apr 2008 by Ewe
A host of stars including newly weds Jay-Z and Beyonce Knowles turned out to see the Joe Calzaghe-Bernard Hopkins fight in Las Vegas in the early hours of the morning. Arnold Schwarzenegger also took a break from governing California to attend the light heavyweight bout at the Thomas & Mack Center. However, Welshman Calzaghe had some home celeb support from actress Catherine Zeta-Jones, with Tom Jones also performing before the main event. Whether that was what saw Joe through in his time of need is debatable – as was the result. The undefeated champion was named a split-points victor after originally being knocked by 43-year-old Hopkins down in the first round.

BEYONCE'S CRAZY ROW
Posted on 18 Apr 2008 by Ewe
Beyonce Knowles had a furious row with husband Jay-Z over one of her biggest hit singles. Beyonce, who is believed to have married the hip-hop mogul earlier this month, reportedly lost her temper at a concert when Jay-Z told the DJ to stop playing 'Crazy in Love' - a track which also features the rapper. Jay-Z allegedly said: "F**k that. Sorry Beyonce but f**k that, lets play something else." The concert, which was held at Los Angeles' Hollywood Bowl, was organised in support of US Presidential candidate Barack Obama. A source told Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper: "Beyonce had been side stage for most of the night, dancing and singing along. Jay-Z meant it as a joke but she didn't see it that way. After he came off stage, she confronted him, demanding to know what the hell his comments had been about. She was gesturing wildly and not looking happy. "Later, peace was restored and they were smiling and looking happy again."

BEYONCE'S SISTER SENDS MESSAGE TO JAMIE LYNN SPEARS
Posted on 18 Apr 2008 by Ewe
Beyonce Knowles’ little sister, Solange, has sent a message out to Britney Spears’ pregnant little sister, Jamie Lynn — urging her to do “what’s best”. Knowles, who gave birth to son Daniel in 2004 at the age of 18 and split with husband, former college football player Daniel Smith, after the baby was born, said: “I’m sure a lot of people perceived that I was gonna be a young, irresponsible mom.” But Knowles, now 21, pointed out, “I think that there are some moms who are 35 who are just as irresponsible.” And her advice for 17-year-old Jamie Lynn is that, “You just have to make the best decisions for you,” Knowles said. “You have to decide what’s best for you. “Who are we to say what’s right and wrong for a person?” To focus on raising her son, Knowles said she “moved to the country for a year” without any nannies or babysitters. “My parents lived on a whole opposite part of the world,” she said. “My son has been my focus ever since the day he was born.” “He’s been the light of my life,” she added to Us Weekly, “the inspiration behind everything.”

Sajid Nadiadwala has indeed gone international now, as he seems to have roped in Arnold Schwarzenegger and Beyonce to play important roles in his next film Kambakht Ishq starring Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor. According to a source, Akshay Kumar will play the role of a Hollywood stuntman in the film, and hence it is obvious that Arnold finds a place in the film. "Our desi action hero will be seen with the international action icon. Beyonce too is reportedly doing a sizzling act in the film. Everything is almost finalized," adds the source. Read more.

TRINI PLANNED BEYONCE'S WEDDING
Posted on 13 Apr 2008 by Ewe
Power couple Beyonce Knowles and Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter created a stir with news agencies all over the world speculating whether a secret wedding ceremony on April 4 had taken place. They had been dating for six years. Few details of the wedding ceremony and all-night after party have trickled down the grapevine, but Trinidadian Colin Abraham, president of the event organising company, Pollen Nation, gave Sunday Newsday a full description of the couple’s magical night. Abraham’s job was to take care of the decor at Jay-Z’s Manhattan apartment, the wedding’s venue. Abraham, an event planner, grew up in Barataria. He was a student at the Barataria Senior Comprehensive school and after that he entered the Prison Service and then to the Police Service before leaving the country in 1998 to pursue a course in sound engineering in New York. While studying he worked part time as a floral decorator at the Waldorf-Astoria hotel before launching Pollen Nation in 1999. One of his first major clients was hip-hop mogul Sean ‘P Diddy’ Combs when he started decorating for his famous annual “White Party” at his home in the East Hamptons. “I have been working with Diddy for seven years now and with that I have been introduced to many people in the music industry and through him Shawn ‘Jay-Z’ Carter saw my work and he also became a client,” he explained. BEYONCE AND JAY-Z STEP OUT, STILL NO WEDDING RINGS
Posted on 13 Apr 2008 by Ewe
Beyonce Knowles and Jay-Z made an appearance at a basketball game on Friday night - but were still keeping schtum about their marriage. The secretive couple - who married in a private New York ceremony last week - did not even sport wedding rings as they watched the Rockets vs. Suns in Houston from the front row, despite reports Beyonce had flashed a wedding ring at a Jay-Z concert on Tuesday. We can report that they did look very happy though. Despite reports of their marriage and reception attended by family and friends including Gwyneth Paltrow a week ago last Friday, the pair have still not confirmed they have finally become husband and wife.

BEYONCE ASKED MUM FOR WEDDING DRESS
Posted on 13 Apr 2008 by Ewe
The Crazy In Love singer, who married hip-hop mogul Jay-Z at his New York apartment in front of 40 guests last week, reportedly asked her mom Tina to create a long, white gown for her special day. A source said, “Beyonce looked stunning. She wore a white dress with a low V-neck and thick straps.” Tina — who designed many of the matching outfits Beyonce and her former Destiny’s Child bandmates wore when they performed — is also believed to have created a special dress for her daughter to party in after the intimate ceremony.

PETA SENDS BEYONCE A WEDDING PRESENT
Posted on 11 Apr 2008 by Ewe
It’s no secret that Beyonce has been donning designer furs for several years, and she even used fur in her fashion line House of Dereon. However, it seems as though the hip-hoppin’ hottie has had a change of heart. However, two years on, Beyonce is Jay-Z ’s wife, though she hasn't admitted it yet — and Pop Tarts has been told exclusively that PETA has been part of the surprise celebration. After monitoring (or perhaps stalking) the sexy starlet every day throughout the winter, the organization never once spotted her wearing fur, motivating PETA Senior VP Lisa Lange to send the newlyweds a throw blanket from the ultra-luxe faux fur maker Fabulous Furs.

"From all of us at PETA, we wish you much happiness in your life together. Please accept this faux-fur throw with many good wishes and a hope from us that together, you’ll be a fur-free couple!" Lange wrote in the congratulatory card obtained by Pop Tarts. Click here to see the card (pdf).

"Time will tell if Beyonce is truly committed to being fur-free, but all indications are that she’s become a real ‘Dreamgirl’ for fur-bearing animals," Lange said. Read more here.

BEYONCE AND JAY-Z'S BLOCKBUSTER WEDDING OF LITTLE INTEREST TO THE TABLOIDS
Posted on 11 Apr 2008 by Ewe
Kudos to Us Weekly for being the only tabloid wise enough to realize Americans might be just as interested in Beyonce and Jay-Z’s (maybe) wedding as, say, a white girl like Katherine Heigl’s. (update: Now People magazine has Bee on the cover as well). Janice Min might be the only celeb weekly editor who understands the newsstand lure of black celebs; her magazine’s Janet Jackson “How I Lost 40 Pounds” issue was among its best selling ever (though it’s said that Min was on leave, and didn’t have much to do with it). While the paparazzi hounded the Tribeca apartment building where Jay-Z and Beyonce supposedly got married, and the local television news had a field day guessing why everyone was wearing white, OK!, In Touch, Star, and Life & Style all ignored the week’s biggest story on their covers. How come? Because of the industry adage that blacks, no matter how famous, cannot move a magazine. Had Beyonce tried to sell her wedding pics, one tabloid editor says she would’ve fetched as little as $250k. (Point of reference: Christina Aguilera sold her baby photos for $1.5 million to People, who assumed they would lose money on the deal.) Granted, Eva Longoria (of Mexican descent) and Tony Parker (black) managed to sell their wedding photos to OK! for $2 million last year, but it’s arguable Longoria has transcended her skin color (yes, that’s as awful as that sounds) and, when combined with her publicity whoring, it isn’t so far fetched. (And let’s not kid ourselves that Parker was even part of the equation.) Instead, this week the tabloids went with much less buzzworthy stories: In Touch had Britney relapsing, Life & Style chronicled Jennifer Lopez’s 40 pound weight loss, Star did a similar pictorial on post-baby weight transformations, and OK! just plain made up a story about Jennifer Aniston and Orlando Bloom getting cozy.

RIHANNA SHOCKED BY BEYONCE AND JAY-Z'S WEDDING
Posted on 11 Apr 2008 by Ewe
Like many of Jay-Z and Beyoncé Knowles's friends and colleagues, Rihanna had no idea about the happy couple's hush-hush nuptials last week. "I didn't know!" Rihanna told PEOPLE at the Escada Moon Sparkle/Island Def Jam benefit for her Believe Foundation and DKMS, the world's largest bone marrow donor center. "No one knew!" (Although the wedding has not been officially confirmed, sources tell PEOPLE the ceremony did take place April 4 and Knowles has been spotted wearing a huge ring.) Among those in the audience at Manhattan's Highland Ballroom were L.A. Reid and Rihanna's "friend" Chris Brown. "Chris said it was a good show," the 20-year-old said of her rumored beau. "He really enjoyed it." After the show, Rihanna met with several young bone marrow transplant patients. "You are so beautiful," she told 15-year-old Camila Mera.

Speaking of the wedding, Beyonce covers People magazine this week, so be sure to pick up your copy. That would be cool if someone could scan the article for us (we're also looking for the Us mag scans) :)

SOLANGE TALKS ABOUT BEYONCE'S FUTURE AS A MOM
Posted on 10 Apr 2008 by Ewe
First came Crazy in Love, then came the hush-hush marriage – could the baby carriage be far behind? "Whenever Beyoncé decides to have a child, I definitely think she'll be banging on my door," younger sister Solange Knowles tells PEOPLE. In fact, when it comes to kids, Solange – single mom to 3-year-old Daniel Julez – claims Beyoncé has a lot to learn. "She's kept my son over the weekend," says the 21 year-old singer and actress. "She'll call me like, 'How do you get this stroller out? And what about the car seat? I don't know how you do this!' And I'm like, 'People do it every day.' " Knowles spoke with PEOPLE about life and her new album – SoL-AngeL and the Hadley St. Dreams – and her latest single, the '60s-inspired "I Decided." While admitting that she's the more outspoken of the Knowles sisters, Solange managed to keep mum about Beyoncé's extravagant wedding to Jay-Z which, sources tells PEOPLE, happened April 4 in New York City. "I don't know anything about [a wedding]," she insisted four days later, adding coyly, "You'll have to ask her yourself." And while she may be happy to share parenting tips, don't expect Solange to dole out any marriage advice. "I got married at 17 and divorced at 20," she says. "So I don't know if anyone would look to me for advice about that!"

WILL BEYONCE'S NUPTIALS AFFECT HER ALBUM SALES?
Posted on 10 Apr 2008 by Ewe
Jay-Z and Beyoncé, who reportedly wed last Friday, join a list of married music power couples that includes Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony, Nas and Kelis, and Faith Hill and Tim McGraw. Of course, the couple hasn't confirmed the nuptials, but a friend told People magazine they wed at Jay-Z's Tribeca apartment. Other music husband-and-wife teams that preceded Jay-Z and Beyoncé have seen mixed post-marriage sales numbers. Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony both saw a decrease in album sales after they exchanged vows on June 5, 2004. Before their union, Lopez released three albums, which have sold a combined 8.1 million in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Lopez's 2005 album, Rebirth, has sold 731,000 copies, while a pair of 2007 albums, Como Ama Una Mujer and Brave, sold 200,000 and 154,000, respectively. Anthony released seven albums between 1994 and 2004, with combined sales of 2.5 million. Sigo Siendo Yo, released in 2006, has moved 151,000 copies, while his 2007 album, El Cantante, has sold 183,000. Nas and Kelis have seen a decline since their January 2005 wedding. In comparison, Faith Hill and Tim McGraw have seen steady sales since they married in 1996. Hill's two albums released before marrying McGraw have sold a combined 3.6 million. McGraw's three have sold 9.3 million. While McGraw's biggest selling album is 1994 release Not a Moment Too Soon, with six million sold, Hill's is Breathe, with 6.5 million copies, released three years after her marriage to McGraw. Like Hill and McGraw, Beyoncé and Jay-Z have achieved success working together. The pair collaborated on songs "'03 Bonnie and Clyde," which reached No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100, and "Crazy in Love," which topped the chart.

BEYONCE FLASHES BLING RING AT JAY-Z'S CONCERT
Posted on 10 Apr 2008 by Ewe
Singer Beyonce may not be talking about her wedding to Jay-Z, but the bling on her finger was enough to make everyone at Atlanta's Phillips Arena on Tuesday night agree that the two had wed. Beyonce flashed a huge diamond ring on her left-hand ring finger during Jay-Z's concert with Mary J. Blige. Beyonce sat in the VIP section at the arena with singer Usher, wearing a short black dress, hoop earrings and the large diamond ring. The two jumped to their feet when Jay-Z launched into the lyrics for his song "PSA," which says, "I got the hottest chick in the game wearing my chain." On Monday night, Jay-Z celebrated without his new wife, and without a wedding ring, at the 40/40 club in Manhattan. He cheered for Memphis during the NCAA men's basketball championship game. When patrons told him "congratulations," he joked that he didn't know what they were talking about.

BEYONCE SITS FRONT ROW AT JAY-Z'S CONCERT

What honeymoon? Days after their hush-hush NYC nuptials, Beyoncé turned up in the front row at Jay-Z's sold out show in Atlanta Tuesday night, the Atlanta-Journal Constitution reports. The rapper, who wasn't wearing a ring, didn't mention his wedding, but "the capacity crowd hit frenzy level" when he started performing bits from "Crazy In Love," his 2003 duet with Beyoncé, according to the paper. Local radio station V-103 reported that Beyoncé — who covered her wedding finger with black gloves during a NYC outing Tuesday — also hit an after-party at Jermaine Dupri’s club, Studio 72, along with Jay-Z, Usher and his wife Tameka and rapper Nelly. SOLANGE VISITS US WEEKLY, PLAYS COY ON BEYONCE'S WEDDING
Posted on 10 Apr 2008 by Ewe
Solange Knowles visited the New York offices of Us Weekly Wednesday but played coy when asked about the recent big event in her life: sister Beyoncé's wedding. Does Beyoncé like being married? "I have no idea!" she responded. Solange attended Beyonce and Jay-Z's hush-hush nuptials in NYC Friday night, Us Weekly reports in its latest issue, on newsstands now. When complimented about the skirt she wore to the wedding, she only replied, "It was a cute dress." Was it a fun night? "What night are you talking about?" she replied. "Friday? Hmm. Friday. I really don't [know]." The wedding aside, Solange did comment about Beyonce and her family. "She's always pretty, she's always beautiful," she said when asked about Us' cover story on Beyonce's nuptials. "Family is family, and we're all [a] very tight knit, protective family," she added. Tuesday night Beyoncé turned up in the front row at Jay-Z's sold out show in Atlanta, though there was no mention of their wedding. "It made the apartment like a heaven, like a palace," florist Amy Vongpitaka, owner of NYC's Amy's Orchids, told Us of the decorations. "You walked in, and it was all flowers — everything white and creamy." In the new issue, Us Weekly reports on the singer's two dresses, what their first dance song was, the celebrity guests and just how tall the wedding cake was (hint: 5-foot-8!).
